Joseph P. Clancy
Former Director U.S. Secret Service
Joseph Clancy was appointed the 24th director of the United States Secret Service by President Barack Obama on February 18, 2015, following a four month tenure as acting director. He retired from this position on March 4, 2017, under President Donald Trump.
Joe’s 27-year career with the Secret Service began in 1984 in the Philadelphia Field Office. Throughout his career, he held several positions in the Presidential Protective Division under Presidents George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. In between his assignments to the Presidential Protective Division, Joe was selected as a staff assistant in the Office of Homeland Security. During this two-year assignment, he served as the director for National Special Security Events. He was also assigned to the Secret Service’s Office of Congressional Affairs, detailed to the Commerce, Justice, and State Senate Appropriations Subcommittee. Joe was appointed special agent in charge of the Presidential Protective Division on February 1, 2009.
Joe now serves as vice president and chief security officer of Comcast Corporate Security. In this role, he provides oversight of the security mechanisms which safeguard and protect Comcast personnel, assets, proprietary information, and physical infrastructures.
He attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and is a graduate of Villanova University with a BA in Political Science/Criminal Justice. Prior to joining the Secret Service, he was a high school teacher and football and baseball coach for the Philadelphia Archdiocese. A native of Philadelphia, Joe and his wife, Andrea, have been married for 35 years, and have four children.
