IRAs, RMDs, QCDs, and CRTs: USing Your IRA for Charitable Giving (Chapter Hosted Webinar)

Program Overview

This webinar will address how IRAs can be used for charitable giving purposes, particularly when the taxpayer has reached age 70 1/2 and is forced to take required minimum distributions, even if s/he doesn’t need it for retirement income purposes.  The speakers will discuss IRA distributions and the RMD rules, and how qualified charitable distributions and CRTs can be used to meet philanthropic goals.

  • What qualified charitable distributions are and how they’re used with IRAs
  • What charitable remainder trusts are and how they’re used with IRAs

 

Featured Speaker:

Ernie Guerriero, CLU, ChFC, CEBS, CPCU, CPC, CMS, AIF, RICP, CPFA is the Vice President of Marketing for Security Mutual Life Insurance Company of NY. Ernie is responsible for developing, coordinating, and directing all marketing and sales related operations. This includes activities field support units within the Advanced Marketing and Qualified Plan areas.  Prior to joining SMLNY, Ernie was Director of Technical Education for the American Retirement Association (ARA) and also held positions as the Director and Head of Qualified Plan Marketing for the Business Resource Center for Advanced Markets of the Guardian Life Insurance Company in New York and Regional Vice President of Sales for Aviva.  Ernie is recognized for his expertise in the retirement planning industry, he has published articles in trade publications, including the Journal of Financial Service Professionals and the New York University Review of Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation, he has appeared on The Wealth Channel and he is a speaker at professional industry group meetings on qualified plan design for closely held business owners.  He has taught for various colleges on employee benefits, and is an adjunct educator for the American College. Ernie currently holds various professional designations and is registered Series 7, 63 and 65.  Ernie is a past National Board Member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, and was on the Investment and Audit Committees.  He is also the Treasurer for the Hudson Valley Chapter of the Society of Financial Services Professionals since 1988.

 

Victor Ngai, JD, CLU, ChFC, RICP is the President of VERTEX Advanced Planning Solutions LLC, training and consulting with financial advisors, planners and insurance agents on advanced planning topics such as estate, business, executive benefits, asset protection and charitable planning.  Prior to founding VERTEX, Victor was the head of the advanced sales department of a major Fortune 250 mutual life insurance carrier; the head of the client strategy and case management team at a leading global provider of manager-of-managers investment solutions and provider of technology solutions to bank trust departments, financial planners and RIAs; and the head of a major Wall Street wire house’s high net worth planning department consisting of up to 20 lawyers, accountants, CFAs and CFPs supporting the firm’s top financial advisors in their prospecting and sales efforts to closely-held business owners, high income and high net worth individuals and families. He was also an attorney in private practice in New York City and New Jersey advising high net worth individuals and closely-held business owners in personal and business planning issues, including trusts and estate planning, business succession and executive benefits. Victor is admitted to practice law in the states of New York and New Jersey.  He is a member of AALU and a 20+ year member of the Society of FSP, including a former Executive VP of the New York City Chapter.
