October 22nd @ 9:00 – 10:00a.m. – There’s No Such Thing as a Blended Family: Effective Estate Planning Solutions for Today’s Challenges
October 22 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
This webinar is co-sponsored by the Society of Financial Service Professionals and the American Cancer Society.
Today’s families take many forms. There are married couples with children from previous marriages who have children together, couples who are not married and have children from previous unions, families with children born of surrogates, grandparents who have adopted their own grandchildren – just to name a few. These families have all sorts of complex estate and financial planning issues, including: the potential disinheritance of their children and grandchildren, protection of their current spouse or partner from their children of a previous union, protection of assets from their former spouse and their children’s former spouses, and disputes about the authority and responsibilities among the various family groups. This webinar will present several different family scenarios, identify the issues, point out what went wrong, and outline effective estate planning approaches that will solve the problems.
Participants will learn:
- Why traditional estate plans often don’t work for modern families
- How to avoid common pitfalls for blended estate plans
- Effective strategies for ensuring your children’s inheritance while providing for your current spouse
